Woven Light With Asian Accents

Hanging a light from the ceiling also means choosing the material that will filter the light every evening in your home. With this woven bamboo pebble pendant, the basket maker's gesture comes into view: the bamboo slats, bent by hand, form an open dome from which a dimmed, glare free light radiates. The natural bamboo reinforces the structure while keeping a visual lightness appreciated in living spaces as well as bedrooms. Paired with an LED bulb, it keeps energy use low with no compromise on the quality of light.

Woven Bamboo, Natural Wood

Looking at the shade, you already sense the density of the weave: each strand crosses the next with a precision only possible by hand, following the gestures of traditional Chinese basketry. The bamboo structure stiffens the whole without making the silhouette heavy, while the open weave filters the light and spreads it in soft layers on the walls and ceiling. It is precisely this porosity of the material that creates, in the evening, a calming atmosphere hard to reproduce with a synthetic diffuser. Sturdy by nature, the bamboo pebble pendant light ages well, as its natural materials gain patina rather than fragility over time.

Dimmed Light in Bamboo

Hung above a table or a living room corner, a woven bamboo pendant light spreads a soft light that instantly warms the atmosphere of a room. The weave filters the beam to create shadow play on the walls, an effect no synthetic lampshade faithfully reproduces. Bamboo, both dense and light, structures the frame without weighing down the silhouette. Over time, the natural fibers take on a honey patina that deepens the character of the piece and suits a pared back interior as well as a warmer decor.

Frequently asked questions

Which size bamboo pebble pendant should I choose?

S (15.7 in) suits a bedroom or a hallway, M (19.7 in) a dining table for four, and L (23.6 in) a table for six or a living room.

What bulb should I use?

It takes a standard screw base bulb. The bulb is not included. It is rated for 90 to 260V, so it runs on standard US 120V current. Choose an LED bulb, which stays cool next to natural fibers, and a warm white around 2700K for a cozy glow.

How high should I hang a pendant light over a table?

Leave about 30 to 36 in between the tabletop and the bottom of the shade. Over a walkway or in an entryway, keep at least 7 ft of clearance from the floor.

Will a woven shade make my room too dark?

The weave filters the light rather than blocking it, so you get a soft ambient glow and patterned shadows on the walls and ceiling. For reading or kitchen tasks, pair it with a brighter light source.

How do I clean a bamboo shade?

Switch the light off and let the bulb cool. Dust the shade with a soft brush or the brush attachment of your vacuum, then wipe with a slightly damp cloth if needed. Never soak natural fibers.
